William “Bill” Ellis Markel

William “Bill” Ellis Markel, aged 64, passed away on November 22, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who were lucky to have known him.

Bill was born on November 15, 1960, in Butler, he was the son of James “Nupe” and Betty (Crawford) Markel. He grew up on the river along Seybertown Road of East Brady.  He married his partner in life, Sheila (Corey) Markel, on October 19, 1985.  In his younger years, he enjoyed watersports and basketball. He taught his son, David, how to wakeboard and it was something they loved doing together every summer. In addition to water sports, he also had a passion for restoring classic wooden boats to their former glory. He was most proud of his replica Hacker Craft that he built and lovingly named “Danny Boy” after his son, Daniel.

After retiring from his 29-year career at Indspec Chemical, Bill turned his focus to his family and his hobbies. Some of his favorite things to do included working on home-improvement projects, tinkering in the garage, playing pickleball, and going out on the boat.

Above all else, Bill cherished his family. He dedicated his life to making his family’s home and the world accessible for his son, Danny. If there was something that Danny wanted to do, Bill was sure to find a way. In addition to building an accessible life for Danny, Bill and David built a house for David and his family just across the street from their family home.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Sheila A. Markel, his twin sons, Daniel Markel and David Markel (Anna) of East Brady, granddaughter, Eliza Markel, his mother Betty Markel of East Brady, siblings, James Markel (Debbie) of Millville, NJ, Robert Markel (Amy) of East Brady and Mary Ann McGuire (Robert) of Butler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father, James “Nupe” Markel.
