On June 12, 2024, The Boys and Girls Club Along the Allegheny went to visit the local IGA grocery store in Emlenton to visit and tour the meat-cutting process and deli. The man behind the glass and cutting boards, Kent Mackrell, explained the process of the meat industry and the sectioning of meat to all the kids in attendance.
One of the members of the club, Crew Adams, a local 6th grader at Allegheny-Clarion Valley Elementary school found the cutlery and tools of the trade to be extremely interesting saying, “The skill and experience the meat-cutter had were amazing. His knives are always so sharp and he works very fast. It was an amazing experience.”
In all, The IGA trip was a great way to get the young minds out into potential trades for their future, as well as knowing where their meat comes from.
