Wayne M. “Bud” Pennington, Jr.

Wayne M. “Bud” Pennington, Jr., 83, of Chicora, passed away early Sunday morning, January 5, 2025, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot while in the company of his loving family.

Wayne was born in Butler on March 11, 1941.  He was the son of the late Wayne M. Sr. and Lourene Seybert Pennington.

He was a 1959 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and a long-time faithful member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.

Bud retired in 2003 as a white oil operator following more than 40 years of service at Penreco in Karns City. He had a strong and well-known work ethic pumping oil wells on three leases every day and spent countless hours building his own home where he kept an immaculately manicured lawn.  His favorite holiday was Christmas, where Bud looked forward to making delicious Christmas cookies to share with family and friends.  He enjoyed shopping for Christmas presents and would spend countless hours making gift selections for his wife and family. He enjoyed traveling, visiting almost all of the states, taking cruises, and traveling abroad. He enjoyed the company of his four chows, “Katie, Molly, Maggie, and Mandy,” who were Bud’s faithful travel companions throughout the years. Bud even warmed up to the stray cat, “Jake.” Bud was affectionately “Poppal” to his four grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

Bud is survived by his wife, Sylvia T. Fugini Pennington, whom he married at Mater Dolorosa on April 24, 1965.  Also surviving are two daughters, Stefanie Klutschkowski and her husband, Mike, of Saxonburg and Stacey Mourer and her husband, Matthew, of Chicora; four grandchildren, Luke and Makenna Klutschkowski and Olivia and Noah Mourer; his sister-in-law, Rosemary Rumbaugh of Chicora; two brothers-in-law, Vincent Fugini and Stanley Gruver of Butler, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, an infant, Jeanne and Gloria Gruver, as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare Parish, officiating. The interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.

The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia for their excellent care, especially Dana Flick.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
