• Treasure Found at Community Christian Thrift Shop. Samantha Howard spotted a carousel horse that looked like one her grandparents made years ago, in a video posted on Facebook by Carrie Thompson, for the Community Christian Thrift Store near Eau Claire. And it was. It had their names engraved in the base, F & C Myers ‘04.
• Bridge repair work on Route 38/208, east of Emlenton, was completed allowing traffic to once again cross of Richey Run.
• Perry Township plans for its2024 Summer-Fest. The event was held on August. 17th.
• Emlenton’s National Night Out was held on Tuesday, August on Main St. in Emlenton. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
• TOPS® Recognizes Vonnie Welton, of Karns City, as their Queen for 2023, for loosing the most weight. Henry Bielmyer of Holtwood, PA was crowned the TOPS King. The two were honored in April and May at Pennsylvania recognition events throughout the state.
• Patty Doverspike of Turnip Hole, PA, recorded a hole in one on the #9 hole at Hi-Level Golf Course on Aug. 4th, at the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club Scramble!
• Fred Graff and his late wife, Jean Graff, were named the Knox Horsethief Days’ Citizens of the year.
• Hazel Kaylor, a resident at the Chicora Medical Center, celebrated her 100 birthday on August 21, 2024. Hazel had been a resident at Chicora Medical Center since 2020 and lived in Chicora prior to making QLS in Chicora her home. Hazel, then on Monday, August 26, 2024, passed away peacefully while at the Chicora Medical Center.
• The Dr. & Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust announced that Bridge Builders Community Foundations will be assuming a key role in the administration of the Phillips Charitable Trust.
• It was with respect, admiration and gratitude, Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts mourned the passing of its beloved founder and president, Dr. Arthur D. Steffee, on his 90th birthday on Friday, August 16, 2027, in an outdoor accident at his StoneRidge residence that may have been related to recent heart issues.
A three part synopsis of Dr. Steffee’s life was written by Kathy Soroka and then published in The Progress News.
• The Butler VA announced its 4th annual Veterans Creative Arts Festival for September 13, 2024, at the American Legion Post 778 in Butler, PA. Artwork was submitted by local Veterans for this arts festival.
• The Foxburg Country Club League Champions were crowned. Winning the league was the team of Logan Pistorious, Dave McElroy, Chris DeMarco and Dave Gifford.
• John Russell, an eighth grader at A-C Valley is involved in many activities at the school. He is also a member of the Oil City Junior Rifle Team. He is an up and coming jr. marksmen in competitive shooting. In January of 2024 he earned 1st place at the PA Junior Olympic State Championship in the Men’s Smallbore in the Under 15 division.
• The BEST COVER BAND in the region – The InTRANSIT BAND with the phenomenal vocalist WILL MANKER, “the Crooner” – performed at Lincoln Hall on Saturday, September 28 at 7:30 PM – performing all your favorite songs from Motown, R&B and Soul – Rock ‘n’ Roll, Pop, Easy Listening and Jazz Standards of the 60’s, 70’, 80’s and the big band era and dance songs. The concert was a pre-event to the annual Foxburg Fall Festival.
• Perry Twp. PETS IN THE PARK + Tack & Pet Supply Swap was held on Sept. 12th.
• Brookville’s Greenberg Cadillac Museum celebrated a reopening on Saturday and Sunday Sept 21 and 22. This is not just the “WORLD’S LARGEST” Cadillac collection. It continues to evolve with additional car acquisitions, new buildings, and new exhibits. The museum is a private collection or Dr. and Mrs. Steven Greenberg who moved to Brookville from the Motor City of Detroit and founded Western PA’s Laurel Eye Clinics.
