• A one-of-a-kind gun collection was on display at the Friends of NRA Banquet on April 6, 2024. The rare educational display showcased the evolution of the American rifle. The nine piece collection that essentially chronicles the revolution of the gun industry today. The owner of this display was hand to give a little history of each piece and to answer questions.
• Pam and Larry Smith opened Quiet Acres Camping for its first season. The camp is located at 1507 Coulter Road, Knox, PA. The Smiths, who have owned the land for some time, transitioned the property into a camping experience with twelve full-hookup sites.
• Members from Parker Allegheny Canby Lodge No 521 put together an Easter Dinner for the veterans in the Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center on March 29, 2024. The Lodge put together a fantastic meal of Ham, Fish, scalloped potatoes, green beans, salad and homemade peach, cherry and blackberry pie. Lodge members said it was great to have an opportunity to honor our area veterans in this way.
• With a distinguished career serving in many different capacities, Corporal Reed Grenci, retired with 25 years of service with the Pennsylvania State Police.
• Lida and Bill Jenkins, were crowned King and Queen at the 2024 Charity Ball,. The ball raised $13,500. This year’s charity ball will be held on March 1, at the Reminisce Banquet Hall, Emlenton.
• Dave WickerhamDave Wickerham performs at Lincoln Hall, Foxburg, Pa. This was the last concert played on the Wurlitzer Organ to kick-off ARCA’s fundraising and capital campaign for an extensive restoration project on the historic Wurlitzer Organ. ARCA has commissioned the professional services of its Wurlitzer technician, Jason Wiles, who for the past ten years has been maintaining the instrument.
• The Autism Tough Foundation welcomed over 200 people as they held their 2nd annual Walk for Autism. The walk was held at Keystone High School on April 21st, 2024 to help spread awareness about Autism and other intellectual disabilities.
• On May 15th the Chicora Elementary Fifth Grade presented a Living Museum for parents and family. Students chose a person from history that they wanted to learn more about. Some of the historic characters presented were, Rosa Parks, Julie Andrews, George Washington, Milton Hershey, Shirley Temple and Neil Armstrong.
• James Blauser and Brianna Schmidt were crowned A-C Valley H.S. 2024 Prom King and Queen.
• Amazing Stitches in Emlenton, participated in a Quilting and Sewing Shop Hop. Shop Hops introduce quilting and sewing enthusiasts to participating stores. They are also a way for stores to showcase their unique personalities, offerings, and talents to new and returning customers.
• Kamille Wike and Richard Crissman are crowned Karns City H.S. 2024 King and Queen.
• The Bruin Area Veteran’s Memorial directors gave an update on the Veteran’s Memorial and Honor Roll. They reported that the ditching, pouring of the footer, placement of ditch block and colored wall block, stone fill, necessary drainage, labor and concrete have been completed and paid for at the memorial site in Bruin.
• On June 8 & 9, the Cook Forest State Park hosted a series of living history events depicting life during the French & Indian War. Highlights included woodland natives, cannon and musket firing, cooking, primitive skills, blacksmithing, tinsmithing, pottery, children’s games, sutler camp, renown living historians, French & Indian War Era artisans, and live tactical engagements.
• Perry Township Historical Society Perry Township Historical SocietyHolds Open House in West Freedom on May 25th the old two-room school. Professional re-enactor Judy Rawson portrayed Betsy Ross and gave an exciting history lesson for all agesOpen House Set for this Weekend.
• Chuck Corbett, owner of the “Harrison Street Antiques”, in Summerville, PA, announced its grand opening on June 1st. After three and a half years of renovating a 1947 garage, restaurant and gas station, the Corbetts were ready to open. The store has weekend hours only.
• Armco Credit Union awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 20 high school seniors. The students were selected from 98 qualified applicants based on academic and extracurricular achievement.
• First Holy Communion First Holy Communion was celebrated at Was Celebrated atSt. Michael the Archangel Church in Emlenton. Colton Bernard, Clara Bernard and Brantley Rumbaugh received their First Holy Communion.
• Parker Allegheny Canby Lodge No. 521 Donated $1000 to the Camo Cares Organization. Kevin Chaff, gave a great presentation about Camo Cares. He explained about how Camo Cares got started up in the small local town of Knox and the many fantastic people that have worked so hard to make it a success.
• On the fifth day of the Great American Getaway RV tour, Friday, May 24, 2024, Governor Shapiro made stops in Clarion, Tioga, and Warren counties, promoting small businesses and showcasing Pennsylvania’s outdoor recreation industry and experiences. While in the area, Gov. Shapiro visited the historic Foxburg Country Club and the Allegheny Grille in Foxburg. On May 20th, Governor Shapiro launched Pennsylvania’s new state tourism brand: The Great American Getaway.
• ARCA celebrated the Summer Solstice with the Colbys. The Colbys are a New Orleans style, piano-driven R&B band, led by John Colby - with acclaimed R&B jazz singer and songwriter Bev Rohler.
• Foxburg’s Divani Chocolatier, on Main St. calls it quits after 17 years. Melissa and Vaibhav Bawa thanked all their customers and friends the best as they move on to the next chapter of our lives.
• The Travelodge by Wyndham, Emlenton PA, was awarded “Best of the Best” by Wyndham Hotels – Travelodge by Wyndham. The Emlenton Motor Inn underwent major renovations along with the surrounding grounds less than a year before. The Travelodge is located at exit 42, off I-80 at the Emlenton Exit, just above the Emlenton Truck Plaza.
• Parker Community Day was set with various events. Headlining the evening event after the parade on Saturday, June 28th, was Isaac Cole.
• At the Petrolia Borough Community Day, a time capsule was buried for a future generation to uncover. The community day was held on July 27 at the Petrolia Park.
