A Memorial Service for Robert James Edwards of Conroe, Texas will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors, 1504 N. Thompson St, Conroe, TX 77301, with Pastor Travis Jackson officiating. The interment at Mt. Pleasant cemetery will be held at a later date.

Jim was born on January 13, 1938, in Avalon, Pennsylvania to Robert Dudley Edwards and Edna (Hazlett) Edwards. He passed away peacefully at home on New Year's Day, January 1, 2025, at the age of 86.

Jim was born and raised in Pennsylvania. From the early age of nine, he learned the value of hard work and dedication. Those formative years shaped his work ethic, which became a cornerstone of his character. After school he began working for Quaker Oil Refinery where he stayed for 15 years.

Jim and Gerry were married in St. Petersburg, Pennsylvania, and shared a strong and enduring love that lasted for 59 years. Throughout their marriage, they built a life full of laughter, resilience, and cherished traditions. Their bond was made even stronger by the arrival of their two children, Robbi Jay and Holly Renee.

Eventually, Jim and Gerry decided to embark on a new chapter, moving their family South to Victoria, Texas in search of fresh opportunities. In Texas, Jim initially worked for Culligan, and then various other companies where he became well-known for his friendly demeanor and problem-solving skills. After a few years, he found his calling at the Texas Department of Corrections (TDC), where he spent the next 10 years before retiring. Jim’s life was a testament to the power of hard work, adaptability, and the enduring love of family.

He was an accomplished carpenter known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. Every polished piece of wood carried a story. Jim had a deep appreciation for the natural world that led to his love of hunting and fishing.

He was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge for 40 years. Jim proudly served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Despite life’s inevitable challenges, Jim and Gerry’s love remained constant. They always found strength in each other and the family they had built. Their story became a testament to the power of love, commitment, and the joy of raising a family together.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna Edwards, son, Robbi Jay Edwards and daughter, Holly Fayle and brother, John Albert Edwards.

Survived by his loving family: wife of 59 years, Gerry Edwards; grandchildren, Cassidy Fayle and Sheridan and Nelson Janes; other dear relatives and friends also survive.
