Robert D. “Bob” Rogers


Robert D. “Bob” Rogers, 88, of Turkey City Rd., Knox, Salem Twp., passed away in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family Friday morning, November 29, 2024, following a brief illness.

Robert was born in Rockford, IL, on May 1, 1936. He was the son of the late Arnold D. and Edith M. Johnston Rogers.

He was a graduate of East High School in Rockford, IL. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Germany. He was a long-time member of the Knox American Legion Post # 720 and served the post as an officer. He was a member of the Clarion Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed trap shooting, fishing, and hunting, and most especially the company of his grandkids and great-grandkids. Bob retired from Owens Illinois in Clarion in 1999.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine A. “Jeri” Swanson Rogers, whom he married in Rockford, IL on July 31, 1959. Mrs. Rogers preceded him in death on March 1, 2011.

Surviving are four children, Lori K. Summerville and her husband, Mike, of Shippenville, David R. Rogers and his wife, Chris, of Knox, Ann M. McNany and her husband, Rick, of St. Petersburg, and Dan M. Rogers and his wife, Karen, of Knox. He was affectionately “Grandpa Bob” to his 11 grandchildren, Josh Summerville and his wife, Meagan, Brandon Summervillle, Corry Summerville, Tessa Cervenec and her husband, Joe, Shane Rogers, Chad Rogers, Caleb McNany and his wife, Candida, Cullen McNany and his wife, Chelsie, Clayton McNany and his wife, Shelby, Ryan Rogers, and Alison Rogers (Jacob Kaltenbach); 10 great grandchildren, Kellen, Lucas, Emmry, Ella, Jace, Myles, Parker, Jack, Hallie, and Forrest, and was looking forward to the birth of a great grandson in April. Also surviving is a sister, JoAnne Carlson of Shippenville.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, and a niece.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Barger, pastor of Scrubgrass Stone Church, officiating. Interment will be held in the Crawford Memorial Cemetery, Emlenton.

Members of the Knox American Legion Post # 720 will accord military honors following the funeral at the funeral home.
