In Rimersburg, the Shearer-Shick Post # 454 of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 7132 will host Memorial Sunday, May 26, 2024 and Memorial Day, May 27, 2024 Commemorative Services.
On Sunday, May 26, the Memorial Sunday Service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park, beginning at 3:00 PM. Bob Carmichael will act as Master of Ceremonies. Rev. Andrew Flower, pastor of Faith Fellowship Church of Rimersburg will be the guest speaker. Rev. Mark Deeter, pastor of Wildcat Wesleyan Church will have the invocation, prayer and benediction. Miss Grace Kindel will present a special musical selection. In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Sunday Service will be held in the Faith Fellowship Church of Rimersburg at 3:00 PM
The guest speaker for the Memorial Day program will be Chaplain (Captain) Michael Will, United States Army Retired. Following his initial enlistment he returned to Ohio to pursue his college education. He holds a B.A. in Business Management from Malone University and a Master of Divinity from Winebrenner Theological Seminary. He commissioned as an Army Chaplain in 2014 following 15 years of pastoral ministry. His military career took him many places, the last two being Fort Bragg, North Carolina serving with the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and his final assignment was at Joint Base San-Antonio-Fort Sam Houstan, Texas serving with the 312th Military Intelligence Battalion. Upon his retirement in 2022, Pastor Will and his family moved to Knox, Pennsylvania for Discipleship at Grave Evangelical Church in Ninevah. He and his wife, Christy, have four children.
The Union High School Marching Band under the direction of Mr. Jack Salter, the Union High School Concert Choir under the direction of Mr. David Gibson, and Mrs. Jennifer Jack will be presenting musical selections.
Eighth grade students from Union High School will also participate in the program. Reciting the “Gettysburg Address” will be Peyton Wilson, son of Ryan and Amy Wilson of Rimersburg; Dane Wiant, son of Bill and Heather Wiant of Rimersburg, will recite “In Flanders Fields”; and Parker Bish will recite “America’s Answer.” Parker is the son of Matt and Jenna Bish of Rimersburg.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at Union High School beginning at 9:00 AM.
Veterans need not be a member of the American Legion or the V.F.W. to participate in either service. Any veterans desiring to be a part of the parade but find march a bit much, should call Commander of the Legion, Charles Brothers, at 814-473-6402, and transportation will be arranged to and from the cemetery.
