Richard L. “Dick” Rattigan


Richard L. “Dick” Rattigan, 74, a well-known, lifelong Chicora Resident passed away peacefully while in the company of his family early Friday Morning April 4, 2025, at the Chicora Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Richard was born in Chicora on June 19, 1950. He was the son of the late Benjamin J. Sr. and Elizabeth F. Donaldson.

Richard graduated from Fairview Township Karns City High School in 1970. After high school, he attended New Castle School of Trades and earned a degree in auto mechanics. Richard was employed by Indspec Chemical in Petrolia and retired following 31 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of Saint Clare Parish – Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. Dick enjoyed bowling in the Petroleum Valley Bowling League. He was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club # 48 and looked forward to attending car cruises with his Mustang and watching Pittsburgh sports. He was a proud lifetime member of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Company. Richard’s most endearing enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley Barnhart Rattigan, whom he married at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church on August 5, 1972. Also surviving are three sons: Todd R. Rattigan Sr. and his wife Catie; Scott M. Rattigan and his wife Sarah; Marc B. Rattigan and his wife Heather; nine grandchildren: Todd Jr., Ethan, Mackenzie, Ryan, Will, Hannah, Halle, Shane, and Harlie; a brother Robert Rattigan and his wife Hazel; and two sisters in law: Rose Ann “Sis” and Joan Rattigan as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Benjamin Jr., John, and James, and three sisters: Francis, Sally, and Karen.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd. Chicora, from 4 - 7 pm Monday, April 7, 2025. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora with the Rev. Alan Morris, Senior Parochial vicar of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, officiating. The interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Village of North Oakland.
