Richard L. “Dick” Carr



Richard L. “Dick” Carr, 95, a former long-time Emlenton resident, business owner, and Mayor, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, March 31, 2025, at Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware, OH. 

Richard was born in Cleveland, OH on September 1, 1929. He was the son of the late Joseph R. and Sarah E. Russell Carr.

Dick was a 1947 graduate of Emlenton High School and was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service, Dick enrolled at Grove City College where he earned a BS in chemical engineering in May of 1957. In his earlier years, Dick was employed by several companies until co-founding Kolchem, Inc. in the mid-60’s. They acquired Grafo Colloids Corporation in Sharon in 1967, then merged with Industrial Colloids Corporation of Emlenton in 1975, eventually shutting down operations in Sharon. Following the company’s sale to Fuchs Lubricants in 1988, Dick continued his employment and retired from the company in 1994. 

Dick was a long-time active member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church and served the borough as mayor for ten years. He and his wife Barbara were active in the Emlenton community spending much time beautifying and maintaining the borough’s veterans’ honor roll. 

Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Barbara E. Edinger Carr. Mrs. Carr preceded him in death on March 30, 2022. 

He is survived by three children: Lesley Carr Page and her husband D. Richard, of Delaware, OH, Amy Carr Pollum and her husband Charles of New Castle, and Emily Carr Pastor and her husband James of Chardon, OH; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He loved attending the grand and great-grandchildren’s activities and sports events with his wife. They loved traveling to the beach and sharing their Ocean City NJ beach house with the community. Also surviving is a sister Barbara E. Popovich and her husband Albert of West Salem, OH; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son Richard L. Carr, Jr., and his wife Shelia; his brothers and sisters-in-law: William and Barbara Carr and James and Helen Carr, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia and Theodore Russell; as well as a niece Linda.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, 508 Main St., Emlenton, with former church pastor the Reverend Dr. Darrell Knopp, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. The interment will be with his wife in the Emlenton Cemetery immediately following the service.

Following the interment a dinner will be held at Reminisce Banquet Hall, 340 Ferree Rd. Emlenton.
