Ressie Belle Burris


Ressie Belle Burris, 78, of Knox Rd., Knox, passed away peacefully at her home early Tuesday morning, July 23, 2024, while in the company of her loving family.

Ressie was born in Parker on December 29, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mabel Corbett Garris. She was a 1963 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District.

Ressie had a strong work ethic and throughout her life had been employed at Hartman’s Restaurant, Zacherl’s Potato Farm, Ray’s Motel, Allegheny Manor, Marianne Towers, and Emlenton’s Laurel Manor.  In her later years before her retirement, Ressie also cleaned homes and businesses.

Ressie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Burris, whom she married at the West Freedom United Methodist Church on March 28, 1964. Mr. Burris passed away on March 4, 2022.

She is survived by a daughter, Robin R. Roessler, and her husband, Steven, of Melbourne, FL; two sons, Douglas S. Burris and his wife, Katherine, of Cranberry and Sean W. Burris and his wife, Melissa, of Knox; her grandchildren, Rebekah Roessler, of Melbourne, FL, Morgan Roessler of Charlotte, NC, Jakob Roessler of Melbourne, FL, Zachary Rupert of Oil City, Brittani Smerkar and her husband, Alex, of Seneca, Gabrielle Burris of Cranberry, Jeremy Long of Middletown, Erica Long of Jacksonville, FL, and Hanah Burris of Knox; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Marie Smerker; a sister, Mary Kline and her husband, Lynn, of Knox; a special niece, Kathryn “Kate” Slaugenhaupt of Knox; a sister-in-law, Jane Hunsberger of Turniphole; a close friend, Dot Henry, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Dakota Roessler; two brothers, Walter “Sonny Babe” Garris and Clifford “Red” Garris; two sisters, Bernice Rankin and Irene Haugh, as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, from 1-3 and 6–8 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2024, from the funeral home with the Rev. Keith Deal, pastor of the Providence Church on the Ridge, officiating. The interment will be in Allegheny Cemetery, Allegheny Township, Butler County.
