CLARION – Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong) today announced a series of events for constituents of the 63rd Legislative District, including two identity theft/shredding events and a veterans breakfast.
To help protect constituents from identity theft, Oberlander will be hosting two free shredding events on Saturday, Oct. 12. These events offer residents the opportunity to safely dispose of personal documents containing sensitive information, preventing potential identity theft.
· Clarion event: 9-11 a.m. at Oberlander’s district office parking lot, 160 S. Second St., Clarion. For more information, call 814-226-9000.
· Kittanning event: Noon to 2 p.m. at the Kittanning Volunteer Fire Department, 13126 US-422, Kittanning. Oberlander will be teaming up with Rep. Abby Major and Sen. Joe Pittman for this event. For more information, call 724-954-3613.
Common items that should be shredded include credit card statements or applications, bank statements, canceled checks, old income tax information, insurance and medical records, and any other documents that contain Social Security, credit card or bank account numbers. However, some items will not be accepted, such as phonebooks, newspapers and bound books. In addition, the shredding service is for personal use only and cannot accommodate businesses.
“Identity theft is a serious crime that can have long-lasting consequences,” said Oberlander. “These shredding events are a simple yet effective way for residents to protect their sensitive information and avoid becoming victims.”
Oberlander will also be hosting her annual Veterans Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 8, from 9-11 a.m., at Knox United Methodist Church, 9729 Route 338, Knox. This breakfast is open to all veterans and a guest. Registration is required by calling 814-226-9000 by Friday, Nov. 1.
