The Immaculate Conception Church, Clarion, Catholic Daughters of America, are hosting a book review fundraiser on Wednesday, October 2nd at the historic Haskell House (500 Main Street, Clarion). Doors open at 4:30 pm and the program starts at 5:00 pm and ends at 6:30 pm.
PennWest University President Dr. Jon Anderson will review the book “Down the Great Unknown” by Edward Dolnick and Reverend Harold “Jake” Jacobson will review his book “How I Met My Mother and Other Close Encounters”.

Wine from Deer Creek Winery will be served along with light refreshments and there will be raffle baskets. All proceeds benefit Clarion Kindness Project, a local 501(C)3 nonprofit. There will also be a collection box for nonperishable food and hygiene items for the PennWest Clarion Student Resource Room.

Jon Anderson, Ph.d., President, Pennsylvania Western University
Anderson began his term as PennWest’s second president on July 1, 2024.
Anderson has built a career as a growth-oriented and collaborative academic leader. His experience includes leading multi-campus institutions, prioritizing student success, streamlining budgets, optimizing enrollment, and building shared cultures. Before his appointment by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Board of Governors, Anderson was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Southern Utah University, a regional institution with more than 15,000 students. His previous roles include provost and vice president for academic affairs at Middle Georgia State University, which has five physical campuses and an online division; and administrative positions at the University of West Georgia, where he was deputy provost and associate vice president.
As a growth-oriented academic leader, “Jon” is passionate about building on PennWest’s remarkable progress as a transformative institution and empowering students to achieve their goals and foster lifelong success.
Anderson earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky, a master’s degree in business education from the University of West Georgia, a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Utah State University, and an associate’s degree from Ricks College.
Harold “Jake” Jacobson, Pastor
Grace Lutheran Church Clarion
Harold “Jake” Jacobson is an ordained Lutheran pastor who has served for over 41 years as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion, Pennsylvania. He holds degrees from Jamestown Community College, Gettysburg College, and a graduate degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now
United Seminary).
He is a professional artist, musician, and author (Holy Talk: An Introduction to Scripture for the Occasionally Biblically Embarrassed, Rockin’ the Front Porch, Sharing the Faith in the New Normal, and How I Met My Mother and Other Close Encounters).
He received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024 from the Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry in recognition for outstanding commitment and dedication to the Clarion community. He was also named the 1995 United Way Volunteer of the Year.
