Owen and Liam Pollock appeared as Civil War Soldiers at last year’s open house at the old two room school in West Freedom sponsored by the Perry Township Historical Society and will appear again this year with a display of artifacts found on their Perry Township property along the Clarion River.
Owen and Liam Pollock are again preparing for activities that will take place at the Perry Township Historical Society’s Annual Open House at the old two-room school in West Freedom on May 25 from 1 to 4 pm. Children can pose being “paddled” by Miss Beadle (portrayed by Amber Alworth), wearing a dunce cap, or seated at an original school desk for photos. Lessons will be given using fountain pens dipped in ink wells and each child can write his or her name on specially made certificate souvenir of the day. During “recess” painted rocks can be added to Snidley Snake to see how many times he can be wrapped around a tree. Rocks can be painted at home or at the activity. Professional re-enactor Judy Rawson will portray Betsy Ross and will be given an exciting history lesson for all ages at 2:00 pm.
Young and old will enjoy browsing the museum where new items and photographs are always being added. Sarah McKibben, portrayed by Sally Jordan Reed, will show how visitors are related to her, learn her story of living inside For Hand during the Revolutionary War, and how her sons, John and Thomas, were progenitors of thousands with Perry township roots. Books on township history will be for sale and refreshments will be served. Parker’s Landing Petroglyphs t-shirts will be available for purchase.
Owen and Liam are sons of Jason and Jennifer Pollock of Pine Hollow in Perry Township who are members of the board of directors of the historical society, Jason also being its president. The boys have a special interest in all things Civil War and will display a group of artifacts found by the family on their township property on the Clarion River. Other board members are Kay Caldwell, Charlotte Callander, Sally Reed, Kelly Fair, Bonnie Elliott, Mary Beth Conner, Rodney Barger and Bonnie Elder.
Children must be accompanied by an adult inside the school building. The physical address of the old school is 5687 Doc Walker Road, Parker.
Questions can be directed to Sally Reed at 814-782-3918 or Jennifer Pollock at 814-358-2557.
