Paul E. McDevitt, 96, of Karns City, passed away Friday morning, February 7, 2025 while in the company of his family at the Chicora Medical Center.
Paul was born in Concord Twp., Butler Co. on April 5, 1928. He was the son of the late Owen and Florence Curry McDevitt.
He attended Concord School and was a US Army veteran of both World War II and Korea. Paul had earned the rank of Sgt. 1st Class with the 24th Infantry Division. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
He had been employed by Western Auto and the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and camping in Marienville. Paul was a member of Argyle Masonic Lodge #540 of Chicora, The Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of New Castle. He was a member of the former Chicora VFW Post, later, Parker, The District 2 Trappers Association, The Marienville Rod and Gun Club, and the Karns City Quarterback Club. In his earlier years, Paul had coached by Petroleum Valley Pony League. He most especially enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his wife, Norma L. Lanterman McDevitt, whom he married at St. Paul’s Church on February 8, 1951. The couple would have celebrated 74 years of marriage today.
In addition to his wife, he survived by five children, Paula J. Corbett of St. Lucie, FL, Dennis A. McDevitt of Charleston, IL, Guy L. McDevitt of Karns City, Laurie L. Leighton and her husband, Thomas, of Leland, NC, and Richard S. McDevitt of Illinois; four grandchildren, Laya Feicht and her husband, Eric, Ashley LaSitis and her husband, Patrick, Kirsti Armstrong and her husband, Stefan, and Kyle Leighton; four great grandchildren, Madison and Jackson Feicht and Aiden and Shannon LaSitis; a brother, William McDevitt, Salina, KS, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Corbett, a brother, Robert “Bob” McDevitt, a sister, Betty Ann Smith, and two daughters-in-law, Colleen McDevitt and Donna McDevitt.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, from the funeral home with Pastor Pete Sapp of Trinity Church in Bradys Bend, officiating. The interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Sugarcreek Twp., Armstrong Co. Members of the Chicora and Brady’s Bend American Legion Posts will accord military honors at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
