It happened again.
Last Saturday Sweetheart and I woke up at our usual time and we didn’t want to get out of bed. It was a perfect day to sleep in. The morning was cloudy and the temperature was chilly. It was nice and warm under the blankets.
Many times we have told ourselves that some day we would just stay in bed all day. After all, we are retired and sometimes, we just feel tired. But, something always gets us up. Usually it’s our bladders or our stomachs. Occasionally, it’s an early-morning appointment or a telephone call. And, sometimes, after an hour or so we just get bored and decide to get up. I guess a person can even get too much of a good thing.
It’s not that we have nothing to do. We like to go places and do things and be with our friends and family. But, whatever it is, it can usually wait.
Besides, we’ve earned this life of leisure. We have both got up early, worked hard and gone to bed late. We have contributed time, talent and treasure to help make the world a better place. While taking time out, every now and then to go on vacation, or to rejuvenate, we looked forward to retirement.
Even though we have only been together for 13 years and did not share our work lives, we both had the same goal in mind. We didn’t want to get up early, work long hours and go to bed late.
But, we can still help to make the world a better place--just by being with other people and sharing God’s love. By giving them encouragement to do a good job and to be healthy and happy.
Sweetheart and I may still find a day when we will stay in bed all day. In the meantime, we can always get a nap in the afternoon.
