Old-Fashioned Christmas Celebration to be held for Perry Township

On December 14th friends and neighbors will come together to celebrate the magical holiday season at the David Wetzel Park in West Freedom. Breakfast will be served to benefit the fire company from 8-11 AM in the firehall. During this time there will be lots of activities going on in the fire-hall totally free to all of the family. Cookie decorating, ornament making, and popcorn stringing will surely be fun for all. Ornaments made and strung popcorn will adorn our community tree outside and will be lit up later in the evening, but ornaments can also be made to be taken home.

Santa will make an appearance from 9-10 am to visit with the children and for photos.

Old Christmas records will be playing along with old-time Christmas video clips, to include lots of time to enjoy the fellowship of the community. This is a family-friendly event, and whether folks are visiting, decorating cookies, making ornaments, watching a movie, playing a game, doing a puzzle, or coloring a picture to take home-Christmas spirit will definitely be in the air.

If you are a cookie baker, consider entering our Christmas cookie contest. Bring a baker’s dozen by 9 am for judging and at 11 am the cookies will be auctioned off to benefit the Perry VFC. The winner will receive a gift card, so plan on being there to bid on some terrific Christmas cookies.

During the day area groups, businesses, clubs, churches, families, or neighborhoods are encouraged to make a light display in the park which will be lit up with our community tree at 5:45. A pizza party will be awarded to the winning group. Also throughout Perry Township look for the “12 Days of Christmas” light displays at homes.

These displays will be available from December 6-13 for the community to drive around in the area and identify each day from the song. Everybody who completes the 12 locations from the song will receive a custom-made commemorative ornament and these will need to be picked up at the park.

In the evening there will be a bonfire with hot dogs, s’mores, and hot drinks donated from area churches. So bring lawn chairs and enjoy family fun. Light-up will be at 5:45 pm when Mr. and Mrs. Claus arrive on a firetruck. From 6 to 7 p.m. there will be a walk-through live nativity in the pavilion. To conclude our day we will have the community candle lighting.

Watch for information on the PERRY TWP Facebook page. Join in the fun for this “Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration”.
