The railroad tracks in Emlenton are only a memory. The Allegheny Valley Railroad, until it was taken over by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1890, ran along the river. Conrail took ownership and the tracks were removed in 1986. The Emlenton, Shippenville and Clarion Railroad constructed our Hill Street in the 1870’s and came to an end in 1881.
Trains returned in 1993 to a smaller form as the first year of the Emlenton Boy Scout Troop # 41 display was built. Emlenton had and Old Fashion Christmas even weekend that last a few years until it ended. The train display was moved to Donaldson Motors in 1994. The boys scout troop came to an end after 75 years in Emlenton. Bruce was the scout master for many years also coming a few months short of 50 years in scouting. Bruce had the display each Christmas and later ran it for Emlenton’s Summer Festival in July. The display came to a close in January 2024 after 30 years. The book of over 10,000 signatures covers all 50 states and from all around the world. Bruce still has people stopping in to see the display, but it is no longer here. Sometime after Bruce finds a new home it will return in North Carolina.
This will also end over 50 years as a scout and scout leader in the placing of veterans flays at four cemeteries. Bruce is looking for someone to take over honoring our vets. Contact Bruce at Donaldson Motors or call 724-867-2293.
