Larry E. Smith, 65, of Emlenton, passed away at Allegheny General Hospital on October 19, 2024.
He was the son of Shirley L. Dittman Smith of Cranberry and the late Eugene E. Smith.
He was a 1978 graduate of Keystone High School and in his earlier years had been employed by Rhea Lumber in Knox. Larry had most recently been employed by Sonneborn, H.F. Sinclair in Petrolia and was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Larry and his wife were the owners/operators of Quiet Acres Camping in Knox. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic and had built his home and garage. He enjoyed kayaking, and most especially looked forward to “off-roading” with his wife and friends in his 2006 Jeep TJ Wrangler. He was a member of the Oil Valley Jeepers.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Karnes Smith, whom he married on September 1, 1984. Also surviving are two sons, Nicholas Smith and his wife, Mindy, of Emlenton and Shane Smith (Tasha Simmons) of Knox; a daughter, Malinda Myers and her husband, Chris, of Emlenton. Larry was affectionately “PaPa” to his three grandchildren, Hayden and Lillian Smith and Abigail Myers. Also surviving a is a brother, Eugene Smith and his wife, Althea, of Venus; a sister, Barbara McFadden and her friend, Mike Kase, of Cranberry; his nieces and nephews, Alicia McMillen (Jason), Michelle Reeves (Rick), Eric McFadden (Tricia), Jeb Karnes (Tonya), and Teri Karnes (Chris); an aunt, Donna Sheely of Pleasantville, as well as a number of cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, his father-in-law and mother-in-law and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Chris Lewis, pastor of the Salem Reformed Church of Lamartine, officiating.
