Karns City Communities That Care Provides Thanksgiving Meals to the Community

The Karns City Communities That Care organization held its 10th annual community Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, November 20th at the Karns City High School. The group offered this free dinner to anyone in the community. They served approximately 675 meals to the community in a matter of two hours.

Kayla Smith, executive director of the organization, said “this is one of the many ways that we support the community.” “We offer both take out and dine in options to provide flexibility and convenience to our community. It’s great to see the community come together for these events,” Smith said.

Karns City Communities That Care (CTC) was created in 2016, it is a model that aims to reduce substance abuse, improve positive youth outcomes, and make the close-knit group of towns in the Karns City Area School District a better place to live and work. They work closely with the Karns City School District and community partners to reduce risk factors for youth in the area. Some of the projects they coordinate through our schools and community are the backpack food program, evidence-based programs for students to reduce problem behaviors, increase self-esteem, decision making and problem solving, and to improve communication skills. They also have a youth group, “The Inspiring Gremlins” at Karns City High School who promote positivity through our schools, holds community activities to promote healthy behaviors, and seeks to reduce problem youth behaviors such as bullying. For more information on the organization or to learn how you can support their mission please visit their website www.karnscityctc.com and Facebook pages for KC Communities That Care and KC Inspiring Gremlins.

“We had a great group of volunteers this year and we appreciate everyone that helped make this event a success.” stated Smith. The group also worked with local community members to provide meals for shut ins.
