Karns City Borough Council working with a committee of area residents, have installed an 8 foot granite veterans honor roll at the Karns City Borough Building on Main Street. The group worked with Chris Hile, owner of Donegal Monument Co./Emlenton Granite Works to design and purchase the memorial, which was crafted from USA domestic granite.
Chris and Terri Hile, owners of the monument companies, provided the granite monument to the community at cost and donated the six bronze military branch plaques in honor and memory of all Karns City area veterans.
T.J. Phillips, owner of Phillips Excavating in Chicora installed the monument’s cement foundation, the sidewalks and the cement pads for the benches and also erected the three pieces 8,000 pound memorial.
Additional landscaping to include a lighted flagpole near the monument will be added to the site next spring.
Council President Virgil Cousins, Vice President, Keith Cousins, and Committee Member, David Hutchison, all say this is something they have wanted for the community for many years and are appreciative of everyone’s efforts to complete this project.
Karns City Mayor, Janet Gibson, invites area residents to attend a dedication service at 2 p.m. on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024 at the site of the honor roll in Karns City. Additional parking will be available across Main Street or at the funeral home.
Any area business or resident wishing to make a donation in honor or memory of a veteran to help defray expenses may make a check payable to Karns City Borough, PO Box 10, Karns City, PA 16041.
