Joseph A. "Joe" McElravy


Joseph A. “Joe Mac” McElravy, 74, a lifelong Karns City area resident, went to be with the Lord late Friday evening, November 22, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV while in the company of his loving family.

Joseph was born in Butler on September 21, 1950. He was the son of the late William P. “Plink” and Rose M. Early McElravy.

Joe was a 1968 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School. He attended Ferrum Junior College in Ferrum, WV. He retired as an inspector following 42 years of service at Witco/Sonneborn in Petrolia. He was a faithful member of Harvest Bible Chapel. Joe was a devoted outdoorsman, avid hunter, fisherman, and skilled marksman. Joe enjoyed trail riding in his mini truck, hunting with family and friends at home in Karns City and for more than 40 years at his camp in Hacker Valley, WV. In his younger years, Joe was a softball “legend”, playing with the Chicora league for more than 20 years and continued his love for the game by coaching his children and grandchildren. Joe always lived life to the fullest, enjoying the company of family, friends, and his faithful companion, “Bernie”. He was a member of the Grove City Sportsmen’s Club, Pine Hollow Sportsmen’s Club, Happy Hunters, and many other hunting and fishing clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. McElroy McElravy; two daughters, Kelley L. Downs and her husband, Robert “Bob”, of Karns City and Erin M. Miller and her husband, Jeffrey, of Zelienople; a son, Mark P. McElravy of Evans City. Joe is survived by his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately “Papa Joe” and Grandpa. Lauren Porter and her husband, Ben, Jordan Downs, Taylor Kelsea and her husband, Maverick, Owen and Cade Miller, Payton and Lyla McElravy and a great grandson, Tate Porter. Joe was looking forward to the arrival of his second great grand grandchild soon. Also surviving is a brother, William McElravy and his wife, Lois, of Slippery Rock, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and his Hacker Valley family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Leah R. “Shelley” Meshanko, a sister-in-law, Susan McElravy, two brothers-in-law, Thomas Kusick and Joseph Meshanko.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27m 2024, from the funeral home with Pastor Jeffrey Miller, Joe’s son-in-law, pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel, Wexford, officiating. A private interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
