John J. Paserba, Jr. has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Class of 2025. Election to the NAE is one of the highest professional honors accorded an engineer, recognizing outstanding engineering contributions in business, education, research, government, and other organizations. John joins the 128 national and 22 international new members for 2025 and is being recognized for his contributions to the power and energy engineering field “for advancing the application of power electronic controllers to improve power system performance and grid reliability.”
The Academy dates back to President Lincoln when he established the National Academy of Sciences in 1863, with the Academy of Engineering branching off in 1964 (and the Institute of Medicine/Academy of Medicine in 1970). NAE is a private, independent, nonprofit institution that provides engineering leadership in service to the nation. The mission of the National Academy of Engineering is to advance the welfare and prosperity of the nation by providing independent advice on matters involving engineering and technology, and by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and public appreciation of engineering.
The NAE has approximately 2500 peer-elected members and international members, senior professionals in business, academia, and government who are among the world’s most accomplished engineers. They provide leadership and expertise for numerous projects focused on relationships between engineering, technology, and the quality of life. The induction ceremony will occur in Washington DC in October of this year.
