Janice L. “Jan” Douglass, 81, of Eau Claire, went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, October 2, 2024, while in the comfort of her home.
Janice was born in Dormont, Allegheny County, on February 17, 1943. She was the daughter of the late William Sr. and Janet Caldwell Rugh.
She was a graduate of the former Dormont High School and had received her B.S. in elementary education from Clarion University. Jan substituted in various area school districts for many years and retired in 2000 from OPM-USIS in Boyers.
Jan was a long-time active member of the former East Unity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Valley and had served the church as an elder, secretary/treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. Jan was the coordinator/volunteer for the Moniteau Meals on Wheels program for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Keith Douglass, whom she married at the East Unity Church in 1980. Mr. Douglass preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving is a daughter, Jennifer L. Gardner of Butler; her stepchildren, Scott Douglass and his wife, Marcie, of Emlenton, Gwen Hickman and her husband, Mike, of Kittanning, and Glenn Douglass and his wife, Karen, of Crawfordsville, FL; two grandchildren, Amber Carter and her husband, Joel, of Old Fort, NC and Leanna J. Douglass of Crawfordsville, FL; a brother, William “Bill” Rugh Jr. and his wife, CeCe, of Lancaster, NH, as well as several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton from 11 a.m. – 12 Noon on Monday, October 7, 2024. A memorial service will follow at Noon from the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Paul Schaefer, Jan’s former church pastor, officiating. The interment will be in East Unity Cemetery.
