Helen C. Whitmer, 92, of Emlenton, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Oil City Rehabilitation Center.
Helen was born in Scrubgrass Twp., Venango Co. on April 9, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Earl W. and Annie E. Wyant Shultz.
She attended school in East Brady and had been employed at the Parker Glass Plant and Glass Containers in Knox. She was of the Protestant faith. Helen was a devoted homemaker and was an expert seamstress, making costumes and prom dresses for her family. She enjoyed crafts and traveling to Colorado to visit her son. Over the years, Helen most especially enjoyed babysitting her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Helen was married in East Brady to Clifford E. “Junior” Whitmer on June 9, 1949. The couple had been married for more than 63 years. Mr. Whitmer preceded her in death in 2011.
Surviving is a daughter, Wanda L. Sebring; her grandchildren, Cynthia Wyman and Logan J. Peoples and his wife, Meagan, all of Emlenton; four great-grandchildren, Skylar Crissman, CeJae Wyman, and Kellan and Fallon Peoples; two sisters, Judith Crawford of East Brady and Marilyn Rankin and her husband, Jim, of Rimersburg; a daughter-in-law, Kathie Whitmer of Erie, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory A. “Butchy” Whitmer and Douglas W. Whitmer, six sisters and six brothers.
Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home Inc., Emlenton. Interment for Mr. and Mrs. Whitmer will be in the Emlenton Cemetery with their son, Gregory.
