GERRE N. SLAUGHENHOUPT, 93, of Clarview Nursing and Rehab. Center, Sligo, Pa., formerly of Parker, passed away at 5:04 AM Wednesday morning, January 8, 2025, at the Center following a period of declining health.
Born in Sligo, Pa. on February 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margaret Snyder Wagner.
She resided in the Parker area most of her life, and on October 11, 1952, she married Richard A. Slaughenhoupt. He preceded her in passing on June 20, 2020.
Gerre was a long time member of the former Parker Methodist Church where she was church organist for several decades. She was also a constituent member of the former Foxburg Methodist Church where she served as organist, for again, several decades. She was an organist for many churches over the years, not only serving at church services, but playing the music for both weddings and funerals. She participated at the Queenstown Church hymn sings, a favorite to do those services.
She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 60 formerly of Parker, now of Clarion, and was a member of the Perry Twp. VFD Auxiliary.
Gerre retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991 with 21 years of service.
She was an avid knitter and member of the Knit Wit Club of Perryville. A lover of pets, flower gardens, and was a gifted quilting and sewing perfectionist - winning many ribbons for both.
Surviving are two daughters: Linda Mahood of Parker; Edith (Larry) Adams of Foxburg; one son, Alan Slaughenhoupt of Emlenton; granddaughters Maggie (Rich) Chandler and Sara (Steve) Dixon; grandson Joshua Slaughenhoupt; great grandchildren: Ava Chandler and Eric Clinger; also a very close and special cousin Joey Ann Mostowy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law Don Mahood.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2025, at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Wayne Ave., Parker. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2025, at funeral home. She will then be laid to rest with her husband at Parker Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerre’s name may be made to the Foxburg Free Library, Tri-County Animal Rescue in Shippenville, or the Charity of their choice.
