Floyd H. “Butch” Whitling. Jr., 76, of Emlenton, Salem Twp., Clarion Co., passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at his home on Tuesday morning, October 8, 2024.
Floyd was born on the family farm in Emlenton on December 30, 1947. He was the son of the late Floyd H. Sr. and Laura V. McKaern Whitling.
He was a 1966 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School. Floyd was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era and was stationed in the Panama Canal zone from 1966 to 1970. Butch had been employed at Seneca Hardwood in Cranberry, Timberline Box Plant in Knox, and retired in 2009 from Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley L. White Whitling, whom he married at the Bethany Church in Knox on April 16, 1968. Also surviving are his children, Lori Dick and her husband, Paul, of Parker, and Daniel Whitling and his wife, Patti, of Emlenton. He was affectionately known as “Pa” to his grandchildren, Ryan P. Dick, Zachary Whitling and his wife, Chloe, Lillian Whitling, and Samantha Whitling and his great-grandchildren, Matthew Dick and Ryker Whitling; his sister, Sherrie Shattenburg. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Bill White; his nieces, Kristie Draa and her husband, Stephen, Stephanie Draa, and Cindy Fellows and her husband, John, as well as several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Floyd was a true country boy at heart. He loved his family, animals, and farming. He will be missed by his family, friends, and Amish acquaintances.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024, and Friday, October 11, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Friday from the funeral home at 1 p.m. The interment will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Emlenton. Military honors will be accorded Friday, at 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home by members of the Parker VFW Post and American Legion Posts.
