Clarion Community Theater will present the comedy play “Elvis has Left the Building” Aug. 21-24 at the Sawmill Theater in Cook Forest. COOK FOREST – A madcap “search” for Elvis is coming to the Sawmill Theater Aug. 21, 22, 23 and 24 and the shows include – for the first time with Clarion Community Theater – a Saturday afternoon performance for those fans who prefer an earlier show during daylight driving hours.
“Elvis has Left the Building” will be presented at 8 p.m. Aug. 21, 22, and 23 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 24.
It’s December 20th, 1970, and Elvis Presley has disappeared. No one, not even his wily manager, “The Coronel,” knows of his whereabouts. But the Coronel is “all shook up” because he has racked up a secret debt – and with the King himself missing, the only way to pay off the debt is to find an Elvis impersonator within 24 hours. Hijinks ensue as the Coronel takes desperate measures to replace a man who is irreplaceable, all while keeping the prying eyes of a nosy reporter at bay and figuring what happened to the real Elvis.
The cast includes Clarion Community Theater veterans Randy Nebel of Wolfs Corners as “The Colonel,” Pam Huffman of Lamartine as “Trudy,” Henry Sherman of Lucinda as “Roscoe,” Jessica Hansford of Clarion as “Jill” and Rodney Sherman of Salem Township as “Candy.”
The Saturday afternoon show was added for those theater fans who prefer a daylight drive through the forest.
“Some of our long-time fans have told us they don’t like the drive home after a show with the darkness of the forest and the many deer along the roads,” said Rodney Sherman, president of Clarion Community Theater. “Other folks prefer to see a show and then have dinner. We think an afternoon performance is a good way to have a show at a time everyone can enjoy.”
