Celebrate the Summer Solstice with The Colbys!


Celebrate the beginning of summer with a “New Orleans R&B Party” in beautiful Foxburg with a star-studded night of entertainment with THE COLBYS. This New Orleans style, piano-driven R&B band, steeped in blues, swing, jazz, and gospel is a “class act” led by the Grammy, Emmy, and Ace award-winning, producer and composer, keyboardist, and vocalist, JOHN COLBY - with acclaimed R&B jazz singer and songwriter BEV ROHLER, the only woman to record with “The Persuasions” who has sung at the Newport Jazz Festival and Village Vanguard and with all the greats from the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra to the National Jazz Ensemble.

These two nationally celebrated and seasoned entertainers have been featured worldwide and across the United States with the likes of Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, and Willie Nelson, and since recently moving to Pittsburgh they appear weekly in the other ‘burgh’ at Con Alma and other venues. Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts is proud to present their Foxburg debut in Lincoln Hall on Saturday, June 22 at 7:30 PM. 

Come and party - bring a group of friends and raise a glass to celebrate the summer solstice in style – with Bev Rohler on rub board and vocals and John Colby on keys and vocals, joined by Rick Matt, horns; Mike Sweeney, bass; and Brice Foster on drums! This will be a sizzling night of world-class entertainment and dancing for those who wish to boogie at the back of the hall or prefer to enjoy the show in the theatre-style seating – where every seat in Lincoln Hall is ‘up close and personal’.

Best known for his work on Ken Burns ‘Civil War’ for which soundtrack he received a Grammy - keyboardist, vocalist, award-winning composer, and producer JOHN COLBY has been described as part Ray Charles and part Professor Longhair.

John’s work for ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” and ‘Baseball’ won the ACE award and he is the composer of themes for ESPN’s ‘Sportscenter’ & ESPYs, Fox’s ‘Best Damn Sports Show’, and NFL on NBC. John has been Music Director for the ESPY Awards since its inception, as The Player’s Choice, NASCAR, Indy 500, and College Basketball award shows on ESPN.

John was Music Director/Keyboardist for saxophonist, Clarence Clemons. He produced Clarence’s “Live from Asbury Park” CD which was released in the fall of 2004. He has performed with, among others: Ray Charles, Bill Murray, Tony Bennett, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Duane Eddy, and Grand Master Flash.

Described as a combination of Aretha Franklin, Ruth Brown, and Ella Fitzgerald, BEV ROHLER has performed worldwide and mostly throughout the Northeast in venues including Iron Horse Music Hall, Village Vanguard, and Newport Jazz Festival. She also has been a featured vocalist for such Big Bands as Mel Lewis’ Jazz Orchestra and the National Jazz Ensemble.

Bev’s album credits include “Symphony in Black”, a Smithsonian release; and “No Frills” by the Persuasions (the only woman to work with them,) “Johnny Shines & Co.”; “Rohler, Groves, Colby”; “Meat & More”; “Big World”, “Christmas Gumbo”, “Every Ounce”. She has appeared on TV in two episodes of the award-winning children’s show, Grover’s Corner.
