Armstrong County Commissioners John Strate, Anthony Shea, and Pat Fabian, along with Veterans Service Officer Kathy Rashlich made a home visit to recognize WWII veteran Vincent “Ted” Toy for his 100th birthday. Due to being out of town on business at the time, the Commissioners were unable to visit Mr. Toy on his actual birth date. However, members from Armstrong County Honor Guard did recognize Mr. Toy on his birthday.

Mr. Toy’s time in the Army Air Corps (May 1, 1943 - February 1946) included service in the Asiatic Pacific theater near Pearl Harbor. Mr. Toy received his initial training as a B-17 gunner, but ultimately worked in the motor pool due to needs of the military at the time, as well as his remarkable mechanical abilities.

During his military service, Mr. Toy was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the American Campaign Medal. After his military service, Mr. Toy worked in Texas and California ultimately making his way back to Adrian, PA.  Mr. Toy is one of 11 siblings; he has five brothers and five sisters who have all since passed. Mr. Toy credits his secret to longevity as he always keeps working.
