The Rimersburg Lions Club is preparing for its 3rd Annual Veterans Day Blood Drive held in association with the American Red Cross. The blood drive will be held at the Rimersburg Community Building at 484 Main Street in Rimersburg from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024.
"The American Red Cross strongly recommends blood donors pre-register for the blood drive by visiting www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-733-2767 to easily reserve an appointment time to give blood. Pre-registration promotes an even flow of donor participants over the course of the afternoon drive and gives the Red Cross an estimate of the staff needed on-hand for the event,” Lion’s Blood Drive Coordinator Greg Mortimer noted.
"In the last few days the American Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations. The destruction created by Hurricane Helene has forced the cancellation of many blood drives in the southeastern portion of the United States and the Red Cross is asking other regions of the country to redouble their efforts to promote their blood drives to prevent a dangerous deficit in the blood supply over the next several months,” Mortimer explained”
”In addition, Rimersburg Lions are asking all area residents to do their patriotic duty by giving blood this Veteran’s Day, November 11th. This is one way to honor the sacrifices American service members have made for our great nation,” Mortimer continued.
The Rimersburg Lions Club meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays each month at the Korner Restaurant beginning at 6:00 p.m. for their semi-monthly dinner meeting. Anyone wishing to join the community service organization whose motto is “We Serve” should contact Membership Chair, Brenda Haws, at (484) 459-3882.
Other community projects the Club sponsors include Route 68 Litter Pick-up, Union High School Senior Student of the Month Awards, 4th Grade Union School District anti-Drug/Alcohol Poster Contest, Community Halloween Parade, Sligo Kindergarten Eye-Screening Program, providing downtown trash cans, local eye glass purchases for the disadvantaged, and contributions to local and District 14-N Lion’s Charity Projects.
