Joe Konkle to wed Jennifer Wheeler


Victor and Carmen Wheeler of Mt. Holly, NC are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Wheeler, to Joseph Konkle, son of Jim and Linda Konkle of St. Petersburg, PA.

The future bride is a 2002 graduate of East Gaston High School in Mt. Holly, NC, and a graduate of South Piedmont Community College with a degree in Radiation Therapy. She is employed by Carolinas Health Care System in Concord, NC.

VNA Hospice is Offering Grief Workshopa


Clarion Forest VNA Hospice is offering a four session Grief Workshop- “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”. Come learn about helpful ways to cope with your loss and find support. Topics will include: understanding grief, managing stress, preparing for holidays and special occasions and going on with life after loss. The sessions are provided free of charge and are facilitated by the Hospice Bereavement Department. Sessions will meet once a week for 4 weeks. We ask that you commit to attending all 4 sessions. Preregistration is required as group size is limited.

United Way Welcomes Patton as President

Michael Patton, Financial Advisor at Patton Financial Advising, has been elected as President of United Way of Clarion County’s Board of Directors effective January 1, 2014.  Mr. Patton has served on the United Way Board of Directors for 2 years, taking active roles in special events planning and community outreach activities.  He succeeds Megan Levy of Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, who served a 3 year term as President.


Clarion Free Library Celebrates 100th Birthday!


The year 2014 marks the 100th birthday of the Clarion Free Library (CFL), a hub for learning, education, and entertainment in the community. In celebration, the library and supporting staff plans to mark each month of this year with an event. Patrons are invited to show their support by attending the programs, which will range in interests for all ages.

Keystone Cheerleaders Advanced to the Semi-Final Round of the PIAA Cheer Championships

The Keystone Varsity Cheerleaders taking time to stunt at Chocolate World for the District IX PIAA Spirit Competition.

The Keystone Cheerleaders advanced to the Semi-Final round of the PIAA Cheer Championships for the second consecutive year. The top three teams from the DIX competition all advanced at states. Keystone, in Medium Varsity, and ECC, in Small Varsity, were the only Single A schools in the state to advance beyond preliminary round and St. Marys, a Double A school, advanced to the semis and finals in the Co-ed varsity division.  ”We are very proud that our small school can finish so strong against such big schools in Pennsylvania.

Quarter-Million-Dollar Gift Establishes Women's Leadership Program at IUP

INDIANA, Pa. — A gift to Indiana University of Pennsylvania from a Baltimore-area family foundation will enable the university to create a new Women’s Leadership Program.
The Shattuck Family Foundation’s gift of $250,000 establishes the Molly George Shattuck ’89 Leadership Fund, which will provide conference and retreat opportunities for female students in coordination with IUP’s Eberly College of Business and Information Technology.
The fund is named in honor of Shattuck, an alumna of Eberly College and Kittanning native.

1,000-Pound Butter Sculpture Commemorates 60 Years of Milkshakes

1,000-Pound Butter Sculpture

Harrisburg – A sculpture made from nearly 1,000 pounds of butter was unveiled on January 2, 2014, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, when it celebrated its 60th anniversary of the show’s iconic milkshake served by the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association. 
The sculpture, sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, takes its cue from the number one song in 1954, “Shake, Rattle and Roll” and features a family enjoying a delicious milkshake while watching a cow couple “shake.”
