With April here the road construction spring season of 2013 near Emlenton, is soon to be in full swing. The Route 38 Emlenton Hill Reconstruction Project is 30 days old and the crews of Mekis Construction are methodically reshaping, widening, and straightening the Phase I section of Rts. 38 and 208 from the intersection of Rts. 38 and 208 at I 80 exit 42 to Squaw Valley and Big Bend Road. This section is closed except for local traffic.

Foxburg Prepares for 2nd Annual Maple Syrup Festival


Foxburg is counting the days in preparation for its second annual Maple Syrup Festival. Given the success of last year’s festival the 2013 festival is expanded to a two day event, Saturday April 27 and Sunday April 28th. The Maplefest includes a 5K Benefit Run/Walk on Sunday along the Allegheny River. The 5K will benefit local VFDs, and will start at 11:00 AM with registration beginning at 10:00 AM at the Allegheny Grille. On line preregistration at runhigh.com.

Roy (Pappy) Bailey of Karns City will celebrate his 100th birthday on April 4, 2013. Roy was born April 4, 1913. He was married to Gladys McCanna Bailey & May E. Binkard Bailey, both deceased. Roy has four chidren; Clarance (Pete) Clark of Mercer, Earl Bailey, Kay Beilstein, & Teen Easley, all of Karns City. Many grandchildren and great-grand children. He will be celebrating with family and friends on April 6, 2013.

Foxburg: A brisk spring morning greeted our egg hunters on the morning of March 23rd at the Divanii Chocolatier in Foxburg, PA. The snow took a break from falling and the sun decided to shine, shedding an extra bit of warmth to the occasion. Several cheerful children arrived promptly at 11 AM, ready to scour the Faerie Garden for hidden treasure!

The National AmeriCorps Week was celebrated this year March 9th thru March 17th. The Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps in Knox celebrated the week with several events. The events were, Seus"ville" week long open house, an open house at the host site Thomas Williams Center in Farrell, PA; and they held a "Showcase" event at the Reminisce Banquet Hall in Emlenton.

On Saturday, March 9, 2013 Reminisce Banquet Hall in Emlenton was the setting for a one of a kind "Charity Ball" which benefitted local individuals and organizations in the local community.

What started out as an idea, became a reality with the gracious efforts and kindness of the Mike Salusky family of Emlenton, owners of Reminisce Banquet Hall. The idea of giving is not anything new to the Salusky family, this was just simply another venue in which to give to the cause.

Route 38 Emlenton Hill Rebuilding Improvement Project Officially Started Groundbreaking March 14th

On Thursday morning March 14th in a brisk wind and still freezing temperatures over forty persons gathered at the base of the Emlenton Hill near the Emlenton Bridge, to take part in the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Emlenton Hill Improvement Project.

Joining in the ceremonial ground breaking were L-R: Amy Whitehill, William Petit, Tim Russell, Barb Warden, Barry Louise, Peter Winkler, Rep. R. Lee james, Senator Scott Hutchinson, and Keneth Wolf.
