Butler County Has a New Dairy Princess, she is Miranda Lutz daughter of John and Donna Lutz of Zelienople, Pa. Miranda is a past graduate of Seneca Valley High School and now attends Butler County Community College. She lives on the family farm, Lutz Dairy Farm, and has six brothers and sisters. Miranda boasts that she is the fifth generation on the Lutz Farm; of this she is very proud. Every Dairy Princess has a Dairy favorite and Miranda loves Chocolate Milk. She enjoys horseback riding, quad riding and gardening.

Whyte's Market Holds Fundraiser for PKD Foundation

On Saturday, May 18, Whyte’s Comet Market, Parker, Pa., held their first fundraisers and anniversary event. The fundraiser was for the PKD Foundation. The organization is solely dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for polycystic kidney disease. They are devoted to finding the treatments that will allow millions of people to live longer, healthier lives. Thanks to the support of their customers and community they were able to raise $2,040. The had about 500 people throughout the day attending the flea market, car wash, or the store.

The Winter/Spring Semester for the CUP HUN Judo Dojo has come to a close after a successful fifty first year since the dojo‘s founding in August of 1963 by Dr. Jobb. Sensei Jobb made many promotion this semester and all judoka ’gave it their best’.

The Moving of the Caboose

Foxburg: There is a different look in downtown Foxburg. The Red Caboose a reminder of Foxburg’s rail history has been moved from its familiar parking lot location to a new location closer to the starting point of Allegheny Valley Rails to Trails bike trail heading south towards Parker. The moving of the Caboose is all part of a Trailhead enhancement project, in part funded by the state of Pennsylvania’s Greenways Block Grant Program. The project includes a new map and information kiosk, landscaping, signage, lighting, benches and bike racks.

Whyte’s Comet Market in Parker will be celebrating our 15 year anniversary at our present location this June. Whyte’s Comet is owned by Jay and Diane Whyte as a family owned business, with their son Allen as head of the meat department and butcher. The Whyte family, thru parents and grandparents, have been the grocery business for over 60 years. Jay and Diane have decided to use this special anniversary occasion to raise money for the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation.

During a recent Board meeting for the Oil Region Alliance, Mrs. Janet McClintock Aaron of Franklin was recognized as the ORA 2012 Volunteer of the Year. In addition to the framed certificate which was presented to her by ORA President Warren Thomas, there will be a native tree planted in the Oil Creek Memorial Landing this autumn including a bronze commemorative plate at its base honoring Mrs. Aaron’s long-time and diverse contributions of time and expertise.

Area’s Community Leaders Prepare for Grand National Cross Country Race

Foxburg: The event director for the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Racing, Tim Cotter, in conjunction with Foxburg's team leader Mike Vereb, held an informational meeting for the upcoming race at Foxburg's RiverStone Farm in September. GNCC Racing is America's Premier Off-Road Racing Series featuring both ATV and Motorcycle racing, Pro and Amateur racers compete in 70 different classes between the two groups.

Bird House Contest and Chinese Auction Being Held This Week for Foxburg's Naturefest

Pictured are a few of the decorated bird houses that are up for auction. There are 24 bird houses that were pained and decorated by students at ACV High School. The bird houses are on display at the Foxburg Pizza and Country Store in Foxburg. A Chinese Auction is being held all week-long in celebration of the coming weekend’s "Naturefest" that is being held in Foxburg on May 4th and May 5th. You can buy your Chinese Auction tickets at the country store and put your ticket in your favorite bird house and you may just end up being its new owner.
