Head Start, Early Head Start and Pre-K Celebrates Week of the Young Child

JEFFERSON-CLARION HEAD START, INC.

Jefferson-Clarion Head Start, Inc. invites local communities to join in celebrating "THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" that will be held April 11- 15, 2016. The theme of the week is "Celebrating Our Youngest Learners". The purpose of this week is to inform the public about early childhood programs and to recognize the importance and benefits of early intervention. Additionally, it is a time to draw attention to the needs of young children and their families and plan how to better care for all young children.
 

CVF County Farm Bureau Scholarships Awarded

Seven scholarships were awarded by lottery to area students at the Spring Meeting of the CVF County Farm Bureau.  There were 34 applicants from local Pennsylvania Farm Bureau members.

Perdue Foods LLC, Recalls Chicken Nugget Product Due to Possible Foreign Matter Contamination

WASHINGTON, March 5, 2016 – Perdue Foods LLC, a Gainesville, Ga. establishment, is recalling approximately 4,530pounds of chicken nugget products (produced for Applegate Farms) that may be contaminated with extraneous plasticmaterials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Saturday.

Churches open for ‘24 Hours for the Lord'

Seven churches in the Diocese of Erie that have been designated as pilgrimage sites during the Holy Year of Mercy will celebrate “24 Hours for the Lord,” an initiative of the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization.

The event is designed to welcome not only the active faithful, but also those estranged from the Catholic Church. The designated churches will mark the 24-hour period March 4-5 with special services. The initiative focuses on the sacrament of reconciliation and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Erie Diocese unveils first portion of Building in Truth and Love, final plan for Catholic schools

Tuesday, the Diocese of Erie began unveiling Building in Truth and Love, the highly anticipated final plan for Catholic schools throughout the 13-county diocese. The blueprint is part of the most comprehensive pastoral planning effort the diocese has undergone in several decades.

Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Smith, 92 of Sugarcreek Twp, formerly of Queenstown died Friday January 15, 2016.
Born February 26, 1923 in New Ferry, Cheshire, England, she was the daughter of Thomas S. and Mary (Price) Horswell.
On November 10, 1945 Dorothy married Kenneth L. Smith. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1994.
Dorothy worked in Port Sunlight, England for 10 years for Lever Brothers manufacturing soap. After coming to America, Dorothy proudly became an American citizen in 1958.
Dorothy loved music, mystery movies and enjoyed sending cards and letters to loved ones.
