Be sure to attend this year’s Foxburg Nature Festival on the weekend of May 10 and 11. This year’s festival is a combination of last year’s Maple Festival and the Nature Festival all rolled into one big festival.
You can enjoy the locally produced Maple Syrup first hand at the annual pancake breakfast at the Allegheny Grille tent or/and take home a bottle or two for home by visiting the Old State Farm Maple Syrup booth.
The Nature Festival field trips begin at 8:00 AM. You are encouraged to preregister as space is limited. One fee covers all daytime field trips, and $25 covers the daytime field trips, the Scott Shalaway lecture and theevening Owl prowl. See the ad on page A-6 for details for purchasing tickets, times and the complete list of events for Saturday, May 10th.
Here are some points of interest for the third annual “Owl Prowl” at RiverStone Farm. This popular event begins at 9:00 PM twilight time. Gate fee is $5 per person. Gates open at 8:30 PM. Visitors will board wagons and will be transported back into the woods, where Audubon guides will attempt to call in the owls. Last year the prowlers were visited by Screech owls and a raucous group of their bigger cousins the Bard Owls. Be sure to dress for the weather because the event goes on rain or moonshine, unless it is a thunderstorm with lightning. Early birds can attend the Scott Shalaway lecture at the ACV Elementary School which begins at 7:00 PM. One topic will be “everything you wanted to know about owls and more”. The lecture cost is adults $10 students $5 toddlers free.
