Emlenton United Methodist Ministry welcomed its new pastor, Kent O’Neil, and his family on July 6, 2014. Pastor O’Neil preached a lively message entitled “. . . But on God’s Power” to a special combined gathering of Emlenton UMC, Big Bend UMC, and Old Zion UMC hosted by Emlenton UMC. Pastor O’Neil had previously served churches in Karachi, Pakistan and most recently nearby in Franklin before being appointed to serve Emlenton by the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church during its Annual Conference in Grove City June 5th through 8th this year.

Pastor O’Neil, formerly a corporate lawyer, received seminary education at Union Theological Seminary in the Philippines, which he is continuing at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He also holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Clarion University and a Juris Doctor degree from The Dickinson School of Law of The Pennsylvania State University. Originally a native of Seneca, Kent, his wife Sarah, formerly a native of Pakistan, and their son Deakin are happy to be at home in western Pennsylvania, having just returned from living in the Philippines in October of 2013. “We are so excited to be living and serving in Emlenton and can’t wait to see what incredible things God is going to do through these churches for the community of Emlenton,” says Pastor O’Neil. When asked what it was like to be an American preaching Christianity in Muslim Pakistan, Kent responded, “Incredible! God’s love and power knows no boundaries. He protected and blessed us amazingly in Pakistan, and I believe he will bless the community of Emlenton just as amazingly.” Pastor O’Neil will be holding services three times each Sunday, starting at 8:25AM at Old Zion UMC on West Home Road, followed by 9:45AM at Big Bend UMC on Highlands Road, and finishing with 11:00AM at Emlenton UMC on Kerr Avenue.
