Parker Area
The annual Memorial Day Services will be conducted by VFW Post 7073 and American Legion Post 598 (both of Parker) on Monday, May 26. Veterans of both wartime and peacetime are asked to participate in this annual observance.  Uniforms are NOT required. Participants are asked to meet at the VFW Post on River Avenue in Parker no later than 7:30 AM.
The schedule of stops  for the day are as follows:

Callensburg Honor Roll – 8:30 AM
West Freedom Honor Roll – 8:50 AM

The Memorial Tablet service will include a guest speaker with a luncheon to follow at Personal Care Home.
Memorial Day Church Services by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Parker.
The Concord Presbyterian Church in Perry Township (near West Freedom-Dutch Hill) have invited the area veterans of wartime and peacetime, including the VFW-American Legion members, to worship at their 9:00 AM Service on Sunday, May 25.  Participants are asked to meet at the VFW Post on River Avenue no later than 8:15 AM to proceed as a group to the church, or meet at the church no later than 8:45 AM to prepare for the service.
Following the 9:00 AM church service, the veterans are asked to proceed to Park Hill Church of God on Lime Plant Road to participate in the church service there at 10:45 AM.  This will be a first-time opportunity for the veterans to participate in two church services on Memorial Day weekend, so let us have a good turn-out of veterans to show we care for our departed comrades.  Remember, Concord Presbyterian at 9:00 AM and Park Hill Church of God at 10;45 AM.

Rimersburg VFW and American Legion Plan Annual Memorial Services

In Rimersburg, the Shearer-Shick Post #454 of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 7132 will host Memorial Sunday, May 25, 2014, and the Memorial Day, May 26, 2014, Commemorative Services.

On Sunday, May 25, the Memorial Service will be held at the Veteran's Park beginning at 3:00 PM. Bob Carmichael will act as Master of Ceremonies. The Rev. Dan George, pastor of Grace Community Church, will be the guest speaker. Jim McCullough will give the invocation and benediction. The Rev. Dennis Fetter, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will read the scripture, responsive reading, and offer a prayer. Tanya Banks and Leah Milliron, seniors at Union High School, will present a vocal selection. In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Sunday Service will be held in the Rimersburg United Methodist Church.

On Monday, May 26, the annual parade is to begin at 9:00 AM starting at the Rimersburg Elementary School. The program is to begin at the cemetery as soon as the parade arrives. The Union High School marching band will participate with Ms. Lisa Hummel as director. Mr. William Conner will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The invocation and benediction will be given by Jim McCullough. Prayer will be offered by Rev. John MIlliron, pastor of the Baker Street Church of God. Guest speaker will be Barry Mitchell from Hawthorne, PA. Barry served 2 years in the Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the 1st Air Calvary, and 30th Field Artillery Unit. Barry is married and the father of four children.
Eighth grade students from Union High School will also participate in the program. Reciting the "Gettysburg Address" will be Isaac Yoder, son of Jamie and Jackie Yoder of Rimersburg; and Amy Henry will recite "America's Answer". Amy is the daughter of Leonard Henry of Rimersburg and Karen Henry of Callensburg. A special musical selection will be sung by Brownie Troop # 21970.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at Union High School beginning at 9:00 AM.
Veterans need not be a member of the American Legion or the VFW to participate in either service. Any veteran desiring to be part of the parade but find the march a bit much, should call Commander of the Legion, Terry Custer, at 473-8364, and transportation will be arranged to and from the cemetery.
Let's not forget those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Paul W. Wood V.F.W. Post 7840
Cherry Valley Announces their Memorial Day ceremony will start at 3:00 PM on May 26th in front of the post at the monument. The Moniteau Firing Squad will be participating. A meal will be served at the post by the Women’s Aux. after the ceremony.

Emlenton Memorial Day Services
The Emlenton Memorial Day service this year will be held on Monday, May 26th at 10:15 AM at the Emlenton Cemetery.
The American Legion Post 636 will start the service at 10:15 AM. Chief Petty Officer Michael J. Louise will serve as Master of ceremonies. The guest speaker will be SFC® Tracy Bowser. Tracy enlisted in April of 1980, serving eight years in the US Army Reserves and 22 years active duty. Her oldest son, SSG Eric Fair, is currently serving at US Army Fort Bragg, North Carolina and did two tours in Iraq. Another son, Sgt. Brian Fair, served eight years in the US Army and did two tours in Iraq. Her daughter, Julie Woody, served eight years and performed one tour in Germany. The youngest daughter is currently serving in the US Army Reserve, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Tracy retired in January 2009 and now resides in Seneca.
Dylan Fulkerson will recite the Gettysburg Address and Abby Larimore will perform the National Anthem.
All Scout troops will participate and present flowers as done annually. Each group will honor a different war from through the years.
