Double Drivel

With Dick and Mike

Double Drivel 5/13/14

Sean Foust recently connected on his first career hole in one.  He aced the 166 yard 15TH hole at Butler Country Club using a 7 iron.  Rumor has it Sean’s uncle Gary Whittington has been working with Sean on his swing.
Wandy Rodriguez is 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA at AA Altoona.  Can’t wait to see him back in the bigs.

Mike’s Commentary: Farmers National Bank Field, home of A-C Valley Little League, recently underwent a major infield renovation. The improvements were possible in large part due to a grant received through the Pittsburgh Pirates. With local teams ready to embark on a new season, don’t forget to get out and support the area youngsters.

Mike’s Commentary: In 2011, Ryan Braun was named the National League Most Valuable Player as the left fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2013, Braun was suspended for the final 65 games of the season for his use of performance enhancing drugs. Thus far in the 2014 season, Braun has returned to form and is hitting .300 with 6 home runs. He proved that he didn’t need to use PED’s when he recently, in consecutive games, took Pirates closer, Jason Grilli, deep in late innings to set up back to back come from behind wins.

Dick’s Thoughts - With Pitt’s win over Colorado in the first round of the NCAA tourney, the Panthers have now advanced to the second round 12 out of the past 13 seasons.

Double Drivel 3/18/14 Issue

Mike’s Commentary: Dale Earnhardt Jr. has started out the 2014 Sprint Cup season on fire.  He claimed NASCAR’s Super Bowl by winning the Daytona 500 and has followed that up with runner-up finishes at Phoenix and Las Vegas. Going back to last year, Junior has 6 straight top 5 finishes and has finished in the top 10 in 11 of his last 12 seasons. Dale will turn 50 in October and with his crew chief, Steve Letarte, leaving the team after this season, this might be Earnhardt’s last real good chance to win a championship.

Dicks Thoughts:
Ben McAdoo was recently named the new Offensive Coordinator of the New York Giants.  McAdoo  played his high school football at Homer Center where he was coached by former AC Valley standout Rick Foust.  Look for Rick on the sidelines of Giants games.

Zach Davis has led the Van Alstyne (TX) high school basketball team to a 22-3 record.  Davis leads the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. Zach is the son of former Emlenton resident Scott Davis and the grandson of Daryl (Red) and Joan Davis of Emlenton.
Head Coach Emily Marron has her University of Central Florida women’s golf team up to #21 in the latest rankings. The Knights in their last 6 tournaments have finished no worse than 5th and have won the last 2.

Double Drivel 2-11-14 Issue

Dick’s Thoughts -
Keystone’s Kennedy McClendon has committed to continue her athletic (soccer) and academic (early childhood/special education) careers at Westminster College.
The Steelers are 33 to 1 to win next year’s Super Bowl.
